CRESCENDO < was a three day studio intensive that explored the transitional nature and time period endemic of incarceration at the St. Louis City Juvenile Detention Center. The project employed conductive and repurposed player piano mechanics, antique musical scrolls, and contemporary studio jewelry practice to incite the development of student concepts through craft objects.

If we’re daring to be operatic about it – like maybe it’s time for us to address critically the fate of our neighborhoods, and those that form our communities (choruses).

And if this is all a principled response to the wider world… we all had better have a foundation.

It’s best we remember… there’s a bureaucracy to opposable thumbs.

It’s best we remember… that brick by brick... that’s just the way the game goes.

It’s best we remember – like note to self:
MUST WRITE
NEW SONGS
TO BECOME… <

GOOD HAND BAD HAND – an’ the bad meaning good <
But Imma hold my head up – but Imma hold my head up
An’ Imma write songs to help the time go by

An’ it ain’t hard to tell I’m thinking about court, just hoping Jimmie Edwards send me back up north… <

GOOD HAND BAD HAND – an’ the bad meaning good <

No, I ain’t in the Olympics, but I’m burning the torch

See, ain’t no stopping us <
We see haters from a mile away, like looking through binoculars <
They tryin’ to send the cops at us <
Ridding round the block and stuff with big beams <
Guaranteed we chopping stuff <

Lil’ accomplices <
Lil’ pusha hold your head up, thinking bout this j-byrd stuff <

At this moment, my life has its trouble and strife <
But that’s just the way that I pay <
Baby we brave <

Spreading rumors round town like I fell down
They can’t hold me down
They can’t stop my shine
Grind hard like my mother
I’m a problem solver
That’s why I'm still alive

You know this is my city right ?

GOOD HAND BAD HAND – an’ the bad meaning good <
But Imma hold my head up – but Imma hold my head up
An’ Imma write songs to help the time go by

Momma got a smile <
This a chance in a lifetime <
Imma think ahead <

Heavy, real heavy, it feels heavy
Somebody help me, my neck hurt, my chain heavy
Heavy, flow heavy

Heavy, real heavy, it feels heavy
Somebody help me, my ego gettin' too big, it's too heavy
My head gettin' too big, it's so heavy
Somebody help me

GOOD HAND BAD HAND – an’ the bad meaning good <
But Imma hold my head up – but Imma hold my head up
An’ Imma write songs to help the time go by

I gotta get that swagga bout myself
Understand
Hot spitta, can I get em, can I speak the truth?

Just tryna be cool
But Imma be me
An’ Imma be real

So when u see me in the streets, don't speak
I’m there baby, faithfully on my job
The way I gotta shine, thinking a NGH’s crazy
If you here leave out, if you coming re-route

Just tryna be cool
But Imma be me
An’ Imma be real ya'll

Pops is no sucka <
Moms a bit tougher <
When heaven dropped a bundle <
I rose to my feet then stumble <

GOOD HAND BAD HAND – an’ the bad meaning good <
But Imma hold my head up – but Imma hold my head up
Lil’ pusha hold your head up, thinking bout this j-byrd stuff <
An’ Imma write songs to help the time go by

SEVEN TEN SPLIT

OK – WE’RE STANDING HERE BECAUSE WE PLACED ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER

OK – WE’RE STANDING HERE BECAUSE WE PLACED ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER LIKE FRANCESSCA’S VISION LED UP

OK – WE’RE STANDING HERE BECAUSE WE PLACED ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER LIKE WE CAN REST EASY, LOW, AN’ HEAVY LIKE EMILY’S ANCOR

OK – WE’RE STANDING HERE WITH A SAARINEN ARCH AT OUR BACKS, LIKE THE WINDS AT OUR BACKS AN’ WE MOVE WESTWARD EXPANSION, ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER

OK – WE’RE STANDING HERE BECAUSE WE PLACED ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER, AN’ WE CAN LOOK OVER THE CITY BECAUSE ANDO ARCHITECTURE METLS AWAY AN’ HAS THE ABILITY TO LET SOME PSYCHOLOGY SEEP IN

OK – WE’RE STANDING HERE AN’ SOMEWHERE BETWEEN ONE FOOT AND THE OTHER WE FIND OURSELVES TO BE AMBIGUOUS AND ABSTRACT LIKE SPACES INSIDE WALLS,

OK – AN’ SOMEWHERE BETWEEN ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER, WE FIND OURSELVES BETWEEN OUR FALLIBLE NATURE AND OUR BOUYANT SPIRIT OF HOPE

ONE FOOT IN FRONT OF THE OTHER WITH THE ABILITY TO LET SOME PSYCHOLOGY SEEP IN

OK

ONE LONG BELL RING – 10 MINUTE WARNING

head down, conjure up – like there’s oil bubbling up – conjure up, like it’s coming up through our waters floated on top of red numbers, easy, like confetti –

time for us to maybe sit still and build – cap it all off – roll in low and fast –

WING MAN TO WING LADY an’ our zeal of call signs conjured up now, an’ yard upon yard in an attempt –

cap it all off with a fifty cap, crispy with a philosophy:

a bugle to sound our charge, some soft shoe to teach us how to move, an’ a little bit of rope for tying figure eight knots gone cathedral –

cap it all off with a fifty cap, an’ a 24oz. surrogate version of property.
